In a growing number of jurisdictions and cities in the United States, more and more people find themselves in designated vaping areas. Of course, not everybody’s happy with this development.
Some consider it a form of discrimination. Some are feeling really incensed about it because they feel that a lot of the same discriminatory behavior and attitudes people have about race, gender, sexual preference, is now using smoking status or smoking preference as a legally safe scapegoat. In other words, they think that this is one perfectly legal and socially acceptable way of oppressing a minority.
Regardless of how you look at the issue, you can’t dispute the fact that the world is changing overnight. As more and more people change their attitudes towards smoking, you can bet that there will be more of these restrictions in the future. They might take a wide range of forms, but the sentiment is the same.
The same cluster of rationales used for designated smoking areas will be applied to vaping. This is especially true as the health data regarding vaping starts to roll in. It turns out that a lot of the much-touted health benefits of vaping simply don’t live up to the hype.
While it’s true that you’re not pumping tar into your lungs, the typical vaping compounds and the biochemical state they are metabolized into may not be all that better. Of course, the jury is still out on this, but it’s not looking quite optimistic or favorable at this point in time.
Not surprisingly, there’s quite a bit of backlash against vaping. Whether it’s justified or not and whether it’s fair or not doesn’t really matter. What matters is that these regulations are rising and taking many different shapes.
So how do you deal with this? Well, first of all, get used to the fact that you’re going to have to vape in a designated vaping area as they advise on the best vape juice. Next, make sure that you adopt proper etiquette. This means that you don’t blow vapor in such a way that it will get into somebody’s face. This means that you have to be very sensitive as to where the wind is blowing.
This also means that you shouldn’t vape liquids that you know most people would find nasty-smelling. For example, you wouldn’t want to vape garlic-scented juice. Now, you may be a very big fan or Italian food or any other cuisine that is heavy on the garlic, but this doesn’t mean that everybody else would share your passion.
So do yourself a big favor and respect the rights of others around you because a little bit of respect goes a long way. It definitely makes for a much smoother vaping experience. You end up avoiding all sorts of unnecessary drama and, ultimately, you become a respected member of the vaping community, especially since the designated areas for such activities are now well defined.
You know that if you ruffle a few feathers or step on a few toes, people can sit up and pay attention. People can and do remember, and this can lead to all sorts of headaches down the road. So a little bit of etiquette can definitely go a long way.
Now, this doesn’t mean that you have to bend over backward to accommodate everybody but be a little bit more mindful and thoughtful of the consequences and effects of your actions and you should be okay.
